This week we will wrap up the unit on polynomials. We will be in the computer lab on Monday and Tuesday and then review Wednesday and Thursday. The unit test will be this Friday and will cover classifying, adding, subtracting, multiplying and factoring polynomials. Students who did not turn in the task rotation from last week on Monday need to do so ASAP as late penalties will accrue daily. I hope to send out progress reports on Friday assuming Infinite Campus will allow me to print them. Have a great week.

I didn’t realize the nine weeks ended this Friday instead of next Friday, so we’ll have a different assignment this week. We will be doing an in-class task rotation Thursday and completing it Friday. This will be the last grade students will have for the third nine weeks. All student make-up work will be due by Friday afternoon and work on Carnegie will be graded as of 1 p.m. on Friday. Grade cards will go home next Thursday afternoon.

I apologize again for the late update; I have been very sick this week. Students have Page 450, 1-10 and 14-17 for homework tonight, and progress reports are going home with students today for signatures. They’ll be due back Monday for extra credit. The assignment will be turned in tomorrow and students will have an in-class assignment over the same material. Next week, we will study Exponential Growth and Decay. We will have a homework assignment on Thursday; it will be page 441, 16-21 and 26-35. We’ll do an ORQ over exponential growth and decay on Friday that will count for a grade.
Reminder to students in my homeroom: lunch money for Tuesday’s field trip is due by Friday; permission slips are due by Monday.

I apologize for being so late in updating this week but there’s been a lot going on here at LCHS. We will have a 20-question, 100-point quiz tomorrow that will cover the material presented over the past two weeks. This includes properties of exponents and scientific notation. The quiz will be multiple choice. If students want to practice for the quiz, this site has some flashcard exercises on the properties of exponents that might be useful. Progress reports for my class will be sent out next Monday. Students can return the reports with a parent signature by next Wednesday for 10 extra credit points. Have a great weekend.

Monday, we wrapped up Systems of Equations. Tuesday and Wednesday were lab days. On Thursday and Friday, we will be starting a new unit dealing with exponents. Students will have a homework assignment Thursday evening. Students in my second period class should have brought home a permission slip allowing them to participate in a survey being conducted by our school’s Youth Service Center. These forms need to be returned to me by next Thursday so the students may participate. If you have any questions about the survey, e-mail Ms. Jama Richardson.

This week we will continue to work with Systems of Equations since many students seem to be having difficulty with this material. Tuesday, students will complete an in-class review of systems. The review sheet will count as a homework assignment and will also contain some optional problems students can work to receive bonus points on the test we took Friday. The homework assignment will be graded solely on completeness, but the bonus problems must be correct to earn additional points. Since many students’ grades on the exam were not as good as they or I had anticipated, I hope they will take advantage of this opportunity to earn extra credit. On Wednesday, we will be in the computer lab as usual. On Thursday, we will do an open response question in class as a group for practice. Students will then do an ORQ on their own on Friday to wrap up the unit on systems. Don’t forget Parent-Teacher conferences will be held Tuesday afternoon from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
